Labor of Love.

But it sure is more fun to watch them plant. We eat off of our veggie garden. I don't go to the market to buy vegetables anymore. We harvest the fruits of our labor in our frontyard. Why not? We live next to a busy street in our city and yet we manage to have a vegetable patch, fruit bearing trees and my own potted herbs. We have our own corn, okras, eggplants, green beans, lettuce, mustard, ampalaya, chilies, tomatoes, malunggay, kamote tops to name a few.

For fruits, we have bananas such as saba, senoritas, lakatans, latundans and other fruits like calamansi, papayas, mabolos, atis, star apples, avocados, green mangoes when in season. And for herbs, I have basil, oregano, dill and rosemary. The fun part is when guests come to visit and they go home with a bag full of organic produce for their dinner. It's amazing to see abundance right in your own backyard and hope that others do the same thing with their garden. My husband tends to the garden with our driver and our houseboy as his helpers. Our olympic size pool turned into a fispond full of tilapias but that's another blog.

high but dry.....

Funny how some people react when they find out that I don't drink anymore. Either they say that you are "no fun" or you find yourself not invited to the usual shindigs any longer. Their loss. I just learn how to have fun sober. I may not be the life of the party but I get entertained just watching and listening to the repartee, merriment and buffoonery. Just because I'm loaded with soda water with a slice of lemon, doesn't mean I have lost my sense of humor. I have cool friends who still love to have me around. So to my zany friends......Cheers!!!..
(hand raised with a glass of soda water and slice of lemon).....:)

Note:  Don't get me wrong. I still enjoy my glass of good wine and a bubbly or a refreshing cocktail mix.....but after that...I get a headache.....

Girlie lunch

Yesterday was a special day spent with good friends who found the time to get together inspite of their busy schedules. We reminisced about the days when we were growing up as hippies. We remember friends who are not with us anymore but have touched our lives in many ways and realize how lucky we are to still be around. We talk about our children with so much pride and joy and we speak of our parents with love and admiration.  And we thank the Lord for life's little blessings.

Fore!!!

So I picked up a new sport since I got married. I think it was a good decision to avoid becoming a golf widow.Since my husband is an avid golfer, I did myself a favor and learned to be passionate about the game. First, I watched professional golf on tv with him and started asking pertinent questions about the sport. What's a par? a birdie? what's an eagle and a double eagle? What's the big deal about a hole-in-one? How does one acquire a certain handicap? It was crazy! Much less learn the techniques and mechanics of  how to hit the ball regardless of the lie and the state of where the ball is. Yup. I learned it the hard way. My husband was my pro and thank god for his patience. It took 10 years of hard labor and relentless enthusiasm to reach my 20 handicap, no easy feat. The best gift that golf can offer me is being able to play the sport at any age, hopefully through my sixties. Since I gave up on exercising, this is the best exercise for me cuz I enjoy it immensely. See you in the golf course.....Fore!!

Place your bets!

photo taken at Manny Pacquiao's gym where he trains. This is Fredddie Roach's boxing gym in Los Angeles, Ca.

Let's face it. If it's not for live sports, life will be less exciting. I look forward to NBA games, PGA golf, Pacquiao fights, LPGA tournaments, college basketball, tennis and even Gerry Springer's live catfights on cable tv to name a few. It's a social and interactive event shared among friends, family and avid fans. Whether you are at the stadium, in a sports bar or in the comfort of your own home, we are all cheering for our team and our fave athlete. Thanks Kobe, Thank you Nadal and thank you Tiger Woods. You bring us joy...:)

blogger's block

I feel helpless. I didn't think that writing a blog can make me anxious. So many thoughts fill my head and still have nothing in mind. I do know that there are a lot that I want to share but where to start is always time-consuming.
So I would like to start this blog with a picture of fruits and flowers picked out from our garden. God is good.
